RDN seeks approval for borrowing bylaw through Alternative Approval Process

Two public engagement sessions are scheduled to take place as the Regional District of Nanaimo plans to borrow $2.48 million for reservoir improvements.

According to the district, the plan is to accommodate an increase in growth and improve long-term fire protection and drinking water infrastructure in the Nanoose Bay Peninsula Water Service Area (NBPWSA).

The district says partial funding will come from the borrowing bylaw, with the remainder covered by reserve funds.

“If approved, the bylaw would authorize the RDN to borrow $1.2 million of the estimated $2.48 million total project cost for the NBPWSA reservoir improvement,” they say. “Reserve funds and developments cost charge funds would make up the balance of the project funding.”

The district says the Alternative Approval Process would run from Aug. 14 to Sept. 16, and electors would have until 4 p.m. on Sept. 16.

The first engagement session will be held on Aug. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nanoose Bay Community Centre, followed by a second Aug. 14 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Notch Hill Trailhead.
