Changes to dock management plan provide certainty for Sunshine Coast dock owners 

Changes to boat the dock management plan will provide predictability for Sunshine Coasters and boathouse owners are in the works by the province and the shishalh Nation, according to the province of BC.  

According to a media release, changes were introduced by members of the Dock Management Panel (DMP), which was established by the province and the shishalh Nation.  

The updates will include a three-year transition period to allow existing dock and boathouse owners to keep their facilities and register them, but according to the province that will be subject to review.  

“During the three-year transition period, BC and the shishalh Nation will review all self-registered docks to transition them into a longer 20-year renewable authorization,” the government says in a media release. 

Also, a 10-year timeline will also be in place for existing dock and boathouse owners, and the province says this will be done to make sure structures are up to date starting this fall.  

“This will allow existing dock and boathouse owners to make repairs to their structures to replace floatation with encapsulated Styrofoam or alternative flotation, and light penetrating decking,” they say.  

Ihe hiwus, Lenora Joe says the plan is just one way a collaborative effort is being made to protect the natural beauty and environment around the Sunshine Coast.
