More people will have access to Parksville Bay beach after the city installed new mobi-mats.
The mats are 100 feet long, making it easier for people using wheelchairs and families with strollers to access the water.
Installing mobility access to the beach has been on the mind of Parksville Council for some time but they say this opportunity came about from a donation by Corona Canada.
The city was planning to review beach accessibility next year, but with the unexpected donation, the council decided to move the item into the 2024 budget.
Mayor Doug O’Brien says the city looks forward to seeing how the project helps improve accessibility at the beach.
Staff will track any issues that might arise with the maintenance of the mats and council will review the feedback from the community in the 2025 budget talks.
The donation by Corona Canada also included two beach wheelchairs that can reserved through the Beach Club Resort free of charge.
