Fire near Nanaimo being held, but also under investigation, Coastal Fire Service

A fire discovered near Duke Point is now listed as being held by the Coastal Fire Service.

According to the Service, the fire is near Harmac Pacific and is estimated to be approximately one hectare in size.

The service says they’re still investigating the cause of the blaze that was discovered yesterday, it may take several days because of the complexity of the location and fire.

The investigation may be carried out by several organizations including BC Wildfire Service, the Compliance Enforcement Branch, RCMP and other agencies.

It’s the second fire this weekend in Nanaimo, after youths with fireworks started a blaze in Piper’s Lagoon Friday night.
