Cupid sets his arrow at Hullo Ferries for love cruise

Love is in the air and Hullo Ferries says they are taking every opportunity they can to help singles find that spark.

Director of sales and marketing Xander France says part of the Hullo brand is to build and foster connections and when the team came up with the idea, they jumped at the opportunity to bring new people together.

“We got feedback from customers they were travelling back and forth to see their significant other, so we thought it was a great idea to support love at sea,” he says. “So, we decided to try high-speed dating during the cruise.”

France says the upper deck of the ferry will be reserved for those traveling on the crossing and they have just 70 minutes to make a connection.

“We got about 20 people from Nanaimo and Vancouver, and we are trying to connect those communities,” he says. “The folks from Vancouver will come over and will be welcomed by people in Nanaimo with roses.”

He says the event’s main purpose is to network, but if couples want to pursue a more intimate connection, they are encouraged to do so.

“As adults, they will get the opportunity to see if they want to continue dating after the event,” France says.

Hullo Ferries says they did not charge the participants in the event, and they hope the pilot program carries on.

The ‘love cruise’ is expected to sail Feb. 1.
