The Sunshine Coast Regional District board says they have adopted a new strategic plan with a strong emphasis on water stewardship and solid waste solutions.
According to the district, the plan was started in June so employees across the district could determine challenges facing residents on the Sunshine Coast through what they call an ‘environmental scan.’
Chair Leonard Lee says they put water stewardship at the top of the list because it plays directly into the health and safety of everyone on the coast.
“We need to continue to secure reliable and diverse water sources across the Sunshine Coast and support efficient water use while fostering responsible stewardship of this critical resource,” Lee says.
“These are mission-critical challenges that the board and staff felt needed to be urgently prioritized for the health and safety of the community.”
The district also knows there are other areas to consider, and they say the SCRD has identified four lenses for how the district will develop all services, initiatives, and projects to meet the economic, social, and environmental challenges of the day.
The 2023-2027 strategic plan was adopted last week.
