Today Tim Hortons across the country raise money to help kids make memories, friends and provide them with the experience of a lifetime during Camp Day.
According to the Tim Horton’s Foundation website, for close to 50 years they have raised almost $12.4 million with more than 300,000 youth taking part in both their summer and camp day programs.
Rock City restaurant Assistant Manager Cody Dempsey says he has been part of the Tim Horton’s family for four years and each year he is thrilled to see the amount of community support going to help kids and families in need.
“It means a lot to work for an organization that supports youth, especially in this day in age,” Dempsey says. “We live in a time where it seems there is so much going on, and we need a place like the foundation to support kids.
“For Tim Horton’s to have six camps in Canada, and one in the United States, for kids to attend is amazing.”
Dempsey says despite not having a location on the island for kids to attend, residents have so far put their best foot forward and provided generous support for kids from coast to coast.
“Customers are coming in asking to donate without even buying a coffee or any products,” he says. “A lot of them just want to support.
“Even though we don’t have a camp on the island, I think they know just how important it is.”
Dempsey says he is not sure exactly how much his store generates in revenue for Camp Day, but since said he approximates the amount is close to $2,000.
Dempsey says at the end of the day-long campaign staff, and customers usually feel a sense of accomplishment towards the work they have done for the foundation, and they look forward to next year.
“I think the difference is people are more excited and accomplished that they are able to help,” he says. “It is a great feeling to help youth right across Canada.”
Last year the Tim Horton’s Foundation raised over $12 million dollars across Canada.
