Big area of the Sunshine Coast moves to Stage 3 water restrictions

Effective tomorrow (Thurs), and until further notice, the Sunshine Coast Regional District has declared Stage 3 water conservation regulations for water users south of Pender Harbour.

In the Town of Gibsons, Stage 3 will apply to Zone 3.

Shane Walkey, Manager, Utility and Infrastructure Services explained the difference between Stage 2 and 3.

“There’s no more soaker hoses or sprinklers allowed so you can’t water your trees or shrubs with your sprinkler but you are still able to hand water your shrubs and food-producing plants and trees. One of the things that aren’t allowed in Stage 3 is washing of vehicles, there’s no more filling of pools, hot tubs or garden ponds either.”

Groundwater sources in Langdale, Soames Point, and Granthams Landing will follow Stage 2 water conservation regulations.

Customers on SCRD water from Pender Harbour to Earl’s Cove/Egmont will remain at Stage 1 until further notice.

The Regional District of Nanaimo moved to Stage 3 just about two weeks ago.

For residents there, that means voluntary water reductions on top of the Stage 2 restrictions.
