New temperature records set

Environment Canada is reporting the warm weather we have been experiencing is breaking records in B.C.

New daily temperature records were set in Gibsons, Sechelt, and Nanaimo.

In Gibsons, where records have been kept since 1949, the mercury hit 25 point 8 yesterday (Thurs). The old record was 22 point 8 set in 1968.

In Sechelt, it was 25 point 8 yesterday (Thurs) beating out the old record of
22 point 8 set in 1975. Records have been kept there since 1956.

In Nanaimo, the mercury hit 27 Thursday surpassing the old record set in 1969 of 25.

Records also fell in Powell River and Squamish.

It looks like a cooling trend is coming and by Sunday temperatures will begin to look more like our “normal” of 17 for a daily high.

We can also look forward to some showers by Tuesday.
