The annual Hike for Hospice is in the rearview mirror and the work is continuing to get a new hospice facility on the Sunshine Coast.
President of the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society, Denis Fafard said they’ve been meeting with Vancouver Coastal Health to try to figure out the way forward.
“Essentially where we are at right now, is we have to gather more information, discuss with them and then we have to look at the options that are available to us and then we have to make a decision about what option is going to be best for the community.”
In the meantime, Fafard said they’ve also visited hospice organizations on the Island to get a feel for what others are doing.
He said in the Cowichan Valley proponents are working in partnership with Island Health to establish a facility that’s prompted a 10 million dollar fundraising campaign.
He said in Comox proponents are raising 2 million dollars for a facility but are not working with Island Health.
Fafard figured the Sunshine Coast team will have to raise 3 to 5 million dollars for a facility.
