Visitor information centre in Sechelt to re-open soon

The shuttered visitors information centre in Sechelt was one of the busiest on the Sunshine Coast.

Paul Kamon of Sunshine Coast Tourism says they are looking forward to taking it over and bringing a consistent message to tourists.

“Right in the beginning, it’s going to be status quo. We want to do a deep dive and access everything, see what things are working and where we can optimize and find some cost savings, for instance, they used to maintain a website which is no longer needed because we have Sunshine Coast Canada, the tourism website and we can push all the information there.”

He says Sunshine Coast Tourism already operates the tourist information centres in Gibsons, Pender Harbour, and Powell River and now they can have a consistent message.

Kamon says they’ll look for efficiencies and then consider some new ideas that would include mobile services that would go out and find the tourists on the Coast and provide them with information.

Kamon says they are in the process now of bringing back the staff who had been at the centre and hopefully, they will get the green light from the District to use the old location in the Seaside Centre.

Sunshine Coast Tourism won the contract to operate the Visitor Information Centre for the District of Sechelt after the Community Services Society decided to end its agreement with the District.
