Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Nanaimo suffers life-threatening injuries

A 17-year-old teenager is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in Nanaimo.

He was attempting to walk through a crosswalk on Hammond Bay Road and Ventura Road around 3:15 yesterday (Wed) afternoon.

He was taken to the hospital and then airlifted to Victoria.

The 33-year-old driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Mounties say the vehicle involved was seized and will be undergoing a mechanical inspection.

The boy is a student in School District 68 and grief counsellors are in place at his school and throughout the District to help any students and staff who may have been impacted by the incident.

If anyone witnessed the collision or if motorists have any dash cam footage, they are asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
