February is officially going on record as one of the top ten coldest for most places in B.C.
Environment Canada meteorologist, Armel Castellan said in Gibsons it was almost 4 degrees colder than normal.
“Gibsons normally sees a temperature of 5 point 2 degrees for the month of February and this year the average temperature there was one point 5, very much on track with that 3 and a half, close to four degrees below normal.”
He said, as far as precipitation, Gibsons got 57 millimeters, with 30 centimers of snow.
The average, Castellan said, is 124 millimeters of precipitation and 6 centimeters of snowfall.
In Nanaimo, plenty of snow fell and the precipitation was about normal.
“On Valentines Day most of the snow had fallen, except for the three centimeters that fell near the end of the month, and at that time Nanaimo had the most amount of snow of any populated area in all of Canada for those first 14 days of February.”
It was colder than normal in Nanaimo with a daily mean temperature around point one.
In fact, Castellan said it was the fourth coldest February on record for Nanaimo and the records go back to 1892.
