A safe place to use.
According to Kris Verhulst of the local Community Action Team, that’s what drug users are asking for on the lower Sunshine Coast .
The Team has been hosting a series of open houses for illicit drug users on the Coast and it was at those events, where, Verhulst said the turnout has consistently been about 30 people, and they’ve asked users what is needed. The users want a safe place to use drugs where they will be welcome.
The meetings are safe and confidential, users can learn about drug checking and get some naloxone training.
He said they are considering The Arrowhead Clubhouse may be a safe place for users to go as people in the community begin to accept denying drug use isn’t helping anyone.
There are actually two open houses this week with the first one being hosted by the Roberts Creek Community Association Tuesday at the Community Hall.
The next one, hosted by the Community Action Team is this Friday at the Pender Harbour School of Music.
