Controlled burn in Sechelt raises alarms

What appeared to be a forest fire in Sechelt was actually a controlled burn done by the Ministry of Forests.

Trevor Pike, Chief of the Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department’s says they received a lot of calls about the fire this weekend, so they did a little investigating.

“You could see it across the Sechelt inlet,” said Pike.

“There was a lot of people that were driving on Sechelt Inlet road who pulled over and called it in. It was well outside of our fire district, so we didn’t attend to the fire but found out it was a permitted burn done by the Ministry of Forest.”

Pike notes the ministry was doing some brush burning up there and the fire looked quite impressive at night.
