A 16 year old girl is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, and a young man is jail after a stabbing early this morning in Nanaimo.
Nanaimo RCMP say around 12:30am they had several 911 calls reporting an assault in the 3300 block of Fairway Crescent.
One witness told police he heard someone scream for help and saw a man run off.
A dog team was brought in and around an hour later a suspect was arrested.
The 16 year old girl, who police say is from Port McNeill, was rushed to Nanaimo Regional General where she had emergency surgery.
Constable Gary O’Brien of Nanaimo RCMP says, “This was not a random attack. These two individuals knew each other and investigators will closely examine the relationship that existed between the two prior to this incident. “
