SD 68 sets moratorium on elementary out-of-catchment placements

The Nanaimo Ladysmith School District has had to do what it warned parents about.
A moratorium has been placed on elementary out-of-catchment placements for the 2018-19 school year.
District spokesperson, Dale Burgos says, because of increasing enrolments and class size and composition, the decision had to be made to ensure there was enough room in classrooms for children in their own catchment areas before out-of-catchment students were allowed in..
Burgos says the District didn’t make the decision lightly and there are applications from about 200 students to attend an out-of-catchment school on file.
He says decisions will be made on those on a case-by-case basis.
