Canada Day celebrations and bus schedules for long weekend

Downtown Sechelt will be a busy place for the Canada Day celebrations.

Siobhan Smith with the district says there are plenty of other family-friendly events planned for the day.

Smith says the family activities will be free, there will be a beer garden downtown, food vendors, a farmer’s market and the coaster’s car club will also be in attendance.

In Nanaimo, there will be live music and entertainment of all kinds at Maffeo Sutton Park beginning at noon.

Parking at Maffeo Sutton is limited to handicap parking only.

For anyone else who has to drive there’s free parking at the Bastion Street Parkade, Harbour Front Parkade, Port of Nanaimo Centre Parkade and the Wallace and Wentworth Parking Lot.

You can also park on-street for 2 hours at a time and buses will be running.

The bus schedule will look a little different for this Canada Day long weekend.

Jonathon Dyck, BC Transit’s media spokesperson explains what kind of schedule the Sunshine Coast buses will be operating on.

For Nanaimo, the bus will be running on its regular Sunday schedule today (Sunday, July 1st) and then going back to its regular Monday schedule tomorrow.

Dyck adds there won’t be any handyDART service for the Sunshine Coast on Canada Day but that’s not the case for the harbour city.
