About 50 per cent of Canadians are eligible to donate blood but only 1/60 choose to do so.
Dave Patterson, Director of donor relations for in BC for The Canadian Blood Services says their goal is to have 23,000 donors by the end of this long weekend and when you donate a pint of blood you can help out three different patients.
Patterson adds if you’re on the fence about donating blood and you don’t have a local clinic to visit on the Sunshine Coast, you can visit their website at blood.ca or call their toll free number to get more information.
He says during the summer season, donations also go down by a significant amount so help is needed from new donors.
