Sechelt aims to have curbside organics pickup for the entire town by 2019

The District of Sechelt is looking to implement a curbside organics pickup program for the entire town.

A pilot project was launched in 2014 for Davis Bay and now the plan is to fully expand the service by 2019.

Paul Appelt, Engineering Technician with the district says they have to wait until 2019 due to a current contract situation.
Appelt notes the district will also save money once this program goes into full effect. It costs $80 the district to process a tonne of organics into compost and it costs $150 for every tonne of waste.
The district will also consider moving to bi-weekly curbside garbage pickups, six months after this program is fully implemented.
