Fuel spill in the Strait of Georgia

Multiple organizations are working together to find a fuel spill in the Strait of Georgia.

30 000 litres of fuel was spilled by a Canadian Naval vessel this weekend, somewhere between Parksville and Nanaimo.

The crew that was on board of the HMCS Calgary tried to reverse their course after noticing they had been gradually leaking, but couldn’t find the spill.

The search and clean up efforts are now lead by the Department of National Defence and both patrols in the air and in the ocean have come up unsuccessful.

If you have any info about this spill you’re encouraged to contact the defence department’s Regional Joint Operations Centre at 250-363-5848.
