The RCMP is warning the public of some common scams that are affecting the Sunshine Coast.
Many lottery scams and scams related to the Canadian Revenue Agency have been reported.
Sunshine Coast RCMP Constable Karen Whitby says the most common scam she’s heard about that’s impacted the community, including herself is a tax scam.
Whitby says it can also be tempting to claim money that you’ve been told that you’ve won, but you should think twice before calling or emailing those people back.
Whitby adds they’ve heard more complaints from Sechelt and Gibsons residents about their mail being stolen.
She warns that the public should be cautious as that could lead to identity theft.
