High amount of illicit drug overdose deaths in April

The BC Corners Service is seeing their second-highest recorded number of illicit drug death in a single month.

136 people died using illicit drugs in April in comparison to a total 69 deaths in April of 2016.

A total 488 people have died this year from using illicit drugs and four out of five of them are men.

The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority has the highest number of illicit drug overdose deaths this year with 171 them thus far.

That is the equivalent of approximately 35% of all illicit drug overdose deaths in BC.

The Fraser Health Authority is second with 145 illicit drug overdose deaths.
