RCMP on the Island and the Sunshine Coast are often sending out warnings about fraud and ID, theft; usually after someone’s fallen victim.
Now, West Vancouver Sunshine Coast MP John Weston is trying to bring more attention to the work of a non-profit organization that started on the Sunshine Coast.
The Canadian Identity Theft Support Centre will mark its second anniversary in June.
Weston says he learned some sobering statistics when he met the Centre’s founders this week.
Weston says the cost of that fraud runs into the billions of dollars.
The Centre works to prevent ID theft, and offers free, expert advice to victims.
