Just last weekend a mountain biker died on Mount Benson in the Nanaimo region.
The 53 year old Victoria man fell off his bike and struck his head.
A Medical Health Officer with Vancouver Coastal Health says mountain biking is a popular sport and in conjunction with that, they’re launching an campgaign called Shred Safe.
It’s aimed to help avoid injuries so riders can enjoy the entire season.
Dr. John Carsley says mountain bikers should take similar precautions as skiiers and snow boarders….
Carley says mountain biking accidents are common, most of them are not dramatic, but they’re enough to keep you off the bike for a long time.
Carsley says last year they had 100 mountain bikers who needed their trauma team and required emergency surgery.
