A suspicious man was using the crowds at a recent fair in the Cowichan Valley to bolster his income.
RCMP Corporal Krista Hobday says police were called to some suspicious activity.
Turns out the suspect was using a card skimmer to get electronic information off of debit and credit cards.
That information is usually sold to fraudsters who have the wherewithal to turn the numbers into brand new cards that can be used without the knowledge of the real owner of the card.
Hobday says it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your statements, especially if you’ve been at a large public gathering.
