Nanaimo RCMP say a 28 year old man was struck by a car and killed on Highway 19, near the junction with 19A early Friday morning.
The man was trying to cross the road near the Woodgrove Mall when he was hit by a northbound car.
RCMP say the driver of the car and his passenger stopped and gave emergency first aid until police and fire crews arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they don’t think speed or alcohol were factors. The car involved will get a mechanical inspection as part of the investigation.
RCMP point out that the victim was wearing dark, non reflective clothing.
He was from Nanaimo, but RCMP are not releasing his name.
