The Town of Gibsons is sending the paperwork to Victoria, looking for approval to transfer money out of its Park Acquisition Fund so it can be used for the Gibsons Public Market project.
Council wants to put 275 thousand dollars from the Fund into the Market.
On Tuesday night they gave second and third reading to a special bylaw, allowing the application to go to the province Wednesday.
Mayor Wayne Rowe says if they get the OK , the money would still be restricted to capital projects, but he says investing in the Market is a capital project.
“The Town right now has a 38 per cent interest in the property, and we’re looking to increase that through these funds,” he says. “That property will eventually become a Town-owned asset.”
Opponents of using the Park Fund for anything other than buying new park land, have been urging people to write the province and ask them to reject the Town’s application.
