The Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation has released their 2015 economic indicators report.
It’s an in-depth analysis of what the economy looks like, and how it’s changing.
Amrit Manhas, NEDC’s Economic Development Officer, says the data shows there were 2,400 more people employed in the region in 2014 compared to the year before.
She says building permit growth rates were also a good news story.
Manhas says Nanaimo’s a cost-competitive environment for businesses, and they want that to continue in order to attract more economic activity to the region.
Manhas says Nanaimo has also benefited from the low Canadian dollar – which has helped tourism in particular.
