Roberts Creek Legion suffers break-in after Remembrance Day

It’s not how a Legion likes to end Remembrance Day. Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating after somebody broke into the Roberts Creek Legion Wednesday night.

Legion officials have said it doesn’t appear anything was stolen, but there was a lot of damage.   One of the windows was smashed out, and one of its exterior doors was damaged.

RCMP also say there was evidence left behind; blood, as well as a grey Hurley baseball cap, similar to this one:

Constable Harrison Mohr  says, “Breaking into a Legion on any day is low, but breaking into a Legion on the night of Remembrance Day is really a shameful deed, and is an act of outright disrespect to our veterans and to those who serve our great country… We’re asking people to come forward with any tips about this break-in, so that we can quickly identify a suspect and help the Legion – and the community – to be at peace again”.

Known in the Community as “The Little Legion”, Branch 219 is one of several struggling with tight budgets and even if nothing was taken, repairing the damage will be a bad blow to the bottom line.

RCMP say the suspect will likely have injuries, possibly cuts, to their arms.

If you have any information call Sunshine Coast RCMP at (604) 885-2266, and mention file #15-7917, or make a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
