The Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives is letting people “adopt” some of its artifacts.
It’s part of an effort to raise 75-thousand dollars for accessibility upgrades to the building.
Curator Matthew Lovegrove says the idea’s been a big hit at other museums that have tried it.
He says the staff hand picked a few artifacts they think will have special meaning for Sunshine Coasters.
A thousand dollars would make you the foster parent of the actual toque worn by the character of Relic in the Beachcombers TV series. Or for 5-thousand people could adopt a cane owned by the founder of the Town of Gibsons, George Gibson.
The new parents of the artifacts can’t actually take them home; they stay on display, but there are other perks on offer depending on the size of the donation involved.
