Penner’s Dock Management Plan recommendations yet to be made public

The Chair of the Sunshine Coast Regional District says he’s hoping recommendations on the controversial Pender Harbour Dock Management Plan will be released soon.

After criticism for not listening to the community, the province – which is working on the plan with the Sechelt First Nation – brought in former cabinet minister Barry Penner to sit down with stake holders.

His recommendations were supposed to go to the government last week, but they haven’t been made public.

Speaking on Coast TV’s Talk to Your Local Government, the SCRD’s Garry Nohr said it’s critical to finalize a plan and move on.

There’s been a moratorium on new private docks in Pender Harbour for more than a decade.

The Dock Management Plan is supposed to balance environmental concerns, the Sechelt First Nation’s rights and title in the area, and the needs of land owners to allow new docks in some area.
