Local government representatives on the Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee say they were taken aback by blunt talk from BC Ferries… but they’ve heard the message.
At the FAC’s last meeting Ferries said they’ll no longer talk fare equity or restoring lost sailings – telling the Committee that’s an issue they have to take to the province.
Councillor Mike Shanks represents the District of Sechelt on the FAC. Speaking on Coast TV’s Talk to You Local Government he said that’s exactly what they’ll do.
“I think our Committee is still willing to work with BC Ferries,” he says. “But the message I took back to my Council is that it’s time for the four governments on the Sunshine Coast to make representation to Victoria.”
SCRD Chair Garry Nohr says coastal RD Chairs are already doing that, and he says the comments from BC Ferries are going to put more pressure on the province to deal directly with the issues being raised by ferry dependent communities.
