Sechelt planning committee turns down business’ request to keep animated sign

Sechelt’s planning committee is standing by its sign bylaw.

The committee is recommending Council reject an application from a car dealership to keep an animated sign installed as part of recent renovations.

The sign was not part of the development permit Council had already approved for South Coast Ford.

Councillor Darnelda Siegers says it’s an issue that’s been debated in the past, and opinions were clear.

“We’ve had others come forward in the past number of years and talk about animated signs, and it’s been pretty clear where the Council stands and where the community stands on animated signs,” she says. “I have to go along with what the community’s expressed.”

The committee decision still has to be ratified by the full Council… in the meantime the sign will stay in place.
