The MLA for Powell River Sunshine Coast says he understands the concerns being raised about a new busing contract for the Sunshine Coast School District.
After years of service from locally owned companies the deal went to a Lower Mainland firm.
SD 46 says it had to open up bidding under the New West Partnership and Trade Agreement between BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Nicholas Simons, who’s also the NDP critic for small business and coastal economies, says they opposed the deal, fearing this sort of situation.
Simons says the trade deal is also partly responsible for so-called “contract flipping” at health care facilities, including Sechelt Hospital, where some cleaners ended up losing their jobs when a company called Compass took over from the previous contractor Aramark
