Sechelt and Gibsons come forward with options for residents needing water for gardens

Sechelt and Gibsons are offering alternatives now that that there’s a Stage 4 watering ban for users on the Sunshine Coast Regional District system.

Sechelt has built a temporary container filling station that taps in to a ground water supply at the former Ebbtide Sewer Treatment Plant, and Gibsons is encouraging people to fill up containers at an ornamental water feature on Gower Point Road, which is fed by overflow groundwater.

“The District (of Sechelt) has been successfully using this source for over a month to water ornamental plantings on public property while reducing our use of the SCRD potable water supply,” says Mayor Bruce Milne. “Council commends District staff and local supplier AJ Pumps for their efforts to make the filling station available on short notice. We are very pleased that our
residents can access water to maintain their landscaping”.

The water from both supplies is not drinkable, but it is suitable for outdoor uses.
