Dams Direct Action Group exploring possible options for civil disobedience

A group of Nanaimo activists are preparing for civil disobedience at Colliery dam Park.
With the City laying the groundwork for the remediation work, Dave Cutts with the Dams Direct Action Group says they’re gearing up.
“We are inviting the public to the park at 1 O’clock in the afternoon this Sunday, to meet our activists” says Cutts. “And to view the area being clear cut.”
Cutts says DDAG members still need to decide on tactics to stall or stop the project, and he says for now they haven’t taken any action because the work hasn’t got the clear cutting stage.
This week, city crews started doing preliminary surveys, flagging the construction area and digging test pits, in anticipating of building an auxiliary spillway.
Council is expected to set the terms for putting the construction work out to tender when it meets on Monday.
