The Coastal Fire Centre says there was some fresh wildfire activity in the region over the weekend.
On Saturday, a zero point 2 hectare fire on the Sunshine Coast was out within hours.
But small brush fire in Nanaimo spread to a home in the 1300 block of Jesters Way, causing heavy damage.
Yesterday, the Coastal Fire Centre was called out for two small fires off Doumont Road near Nanaimo.
There’s also a new, 7.5 hectare fire burning near Chemainus River Provincial Park, south of the city.
The fires were among several, person caused blazes that flared up across BC, a trend the province’s chief fire information officer, Kevin Skrepnek addressed in a Monday status update for media across the province.
“To have to divert resources and personnel and expose ourselves to risk to address a preventable, human-caused fire is certainly disappointing,” he said.
Skrepnek says there is, however, encouraging news. BC is about to see a stretch of cooler, wet weather.
