Good news from the front lines of the Old Sechelt Mine wildfire.
The SCRD says the fire is now fully contained at just over 400 hectares.
The remaining fuel inside those boundaries means the fire will keep burning, so people should expect to see smoke, or even flame, for a while yet. Smoke is also still visible coming from the 450 hectare Dog Mountain fire (pictured above) near Sproat Lake.
Premier Christy Clark, and Saskatchewan’s Brad Wall, meanwhile, are calling for a national wildfire strategy.
They want to see a partnership with Ottawa to make sure firefighting equipment is always available when and where it’s needed, and regular wildfire training for military personnel so they can be called in at a moment’s notice.
