There were tributes Monday at the Legislature for the Sunshine Coast man who died fighting the Old Sechelt Mine wildfire on July 5th.
Forests Minister Steve Thomson was joined by Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons in remembering John Phare.
There’s a celebration of life for Phare Saturday, July 18th from 1 to 5 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre (and a Facebook memorial page is now active)
Meanwhile, things are still stable at the fire site.
The BC Wildfire Service says it’s still covering 400 hectares, with 75 per cent containment. More than 100 people are working to get the blaze to the final mop-up stage.
The 450 hectare Dog Mountain fire also remains stable, and mop up there continues.
The Wildfire Service is also telling people that they’re still likely to notice smoke – and flame it you’re close by – from the Old Sechelt Mine, Dog Mountain, and Pemberton area fires.
