RDN officials say a fire today near Coombs Country Campground is now contained.
Local fire departments worked with BC Forest Service crews on the 0.9 hectare blaze.
There’s been no need to evacuate the campground or neighboring properties.
There are, however, road closures On Highways 4 and 4A, near the campground.
Traffic to and from Port Alberni is being directed along Memorial Avenue into Qualicum Beach.
The Regional District of Nanaimo says it, and the City of Parksville have activated their Emergency Operations Centres, and they’re keeping an eye on the situation.
