Tilray says concerns over ethics behind call for new industry group

The biggest medical marijuana producer in the region says the Canadian Medical Cannabis Industry Association isn’t taking a strong enough line on ethics.

So, Nanaimo-based Tilray is breaking away to form its own group.

Tilray CEO Greg Engel says the Association isn’t willing to oppose financial incentives for doctors, which he doesn’t hesitate to call kickbacks.

He says it wouldn’t be tolerated in the pharmaceutical industry.

Engel says other producers have already agreed to join Tilray in a new Canadian Medical Cannabis Council, which will have a strict code of ethics.
