Routley, other NDP MLAs, grill government on FOI accusations

The NDP is calling them “shocking accusations”.

They say former Liberal staffer Tim Duncan has claimed others at the Ministry of Transportation destroyed more than a dozen e-mails tied to a freedom of information request about incidents on the Highway of Tears.

Nanaimo North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley – the NDP critic for Citizens Services, which is responsible for FOI – joined other opposition members to grill the government in the last Question Period before summer.

The NDP says it wants to know if ministers are authorizing the destruction of records, but Premier Christy Clark says her government won’t tolerate staff disobeying FOI rules.

And she says Duncan’s allegations haven’t been proven.

NDP Leader John Horgan, though, calls the situation a “symptom of a sick government”.
