Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder’s private members bill on derelict vessels only got one yes vote from the Conservatives, and now that MP is ready to introduce his own bill.
John Weston of West Vancouver Sunshine Coast, says he wanted to send a message from his constituents and keep the issue in the spotlight.
Crowder’s bill – which didn’t pass – would have made the Coast Guard the lead agency for dealing with derelicts.
Weston’s bill will take a different approach.
Weston says he’s also working on other ideas that came out of a working group he formed
Parliament’s Summer break is coming up soon, and after that the election, but Weston says he thinks there’s still time for his bill to get first reading.
