Nanaimo Council supports Beban Park master plan

Nanaimo City Council has adopted a 20-year master plan for Beban Park.

It’s a massive 146-page plan, which Parks & Open Space Planner Kirsty Macdonald says revolves around maintaining and improving existing infrastructure.

The master plan is also geared towards facilitating more festivals and events, promoting urban agriculture, and making the park more user-friendly for various community groups.

The Vancouver Island Exhibition Association has been working on the idea of creating an agricultural community centre at Beban Park.

Manager of Fair Operations Stephen Kass says it could serve the community in many different ways.

Several other delegations offered up ideas including community-access greenhouses, a year-round covered farmers market and a velodrome.
