Day scholars case back in Federal Court Monday

Lawyers for the Sechelt First Nation are going to be in Federal Court Monday arguing for approval to start a class action lawsuit.

The Sechelt are working with the T’ Kemlups First Nation to try to get compensation for so-called “day scholars”.  They were the students who went to, but didn’t live at, residential schools.

Garry Feschuk is a Sechelt hereditary chief, and band councillor.

It’s taken three years for the case to get this far, and Feschuk says it’s likely to be a long road. But he says get class action approval would be an important step.
