People in Pender Harbour are going to get a look at new rules for docks Saturday.
It’s taken years of negotiations between the Sechelt First Nation to deal with concerns about the potential impact of docks on cultural sites and the environment.
Sunshine Coast Regional District Chair Garry Nohr says the SCRD didn’t play a direct role.
The “Dock Management Plan” will be presented at the Pender Harbour Community Hall at noon on April 11th.
However, a draft version circulating in the community sets out 4 zones – including one where no new docks will be allowed, and one where new docks will be limited to ones that can be shared by two or more parties.
It also includes a requirement that people applying to renew a dock tenure consult with the Sechelt Nation, and get a preliminary archeological assessment if it wasn’t done in the past.
