Sechelt Council narrowing in on budget, waiting for business cases on big projects

Councillors in Sechelt have offered conditional approval for the 2015 budget, but there’s some tension over going forward with projects started under the last administration.

The Finance, Culture and Economic Development Committee gave the nod to a budget with about 17 million dollars in operating expenses and nearly 8 million in capital projects.

That includes 1.6 million for a new public works and parks building.

But Mayor Bruce Milne says nothing will go forward without some more oversight.

Councillor Darren Inkster says he’s worried there won’t be enough room within the budget for projects earmarked as priorities by the new council.

As it stands now the budget does not call for a tax rate increase.
