RCMP suggesting local bylaws around med. pot dispensaries

Sunshine Coast RCMP say they haven’t changed their stance on a planned medical marijuana dispensary in Sechelt, but the detachment commander has a suggestion for avoiding future criminal investigations.

RCMP say if Weeds opens and starts selling cannabis, they still plan to shut it down and lay charges.   They’ve also been keeping tabs on a mail-order business and another proposed dispensary in Gibsons.

Staff Sergeant Vishal Mathura told the Regional Policing Committee Monday that could involve a time consuming and costly investigation.  He says it would be easier to enforce a bylaw, if local governments had one in place as they do in communities like Surrey.

The Committee voted study the options within the Sunshine Coast Regional District. It’s not clear yet if Sechelt and Gibsons will follow suit.
