Sechelt Council is hearing a new appeal to restrict cutting in the Community Forest tenure.
The District is the sole shareholder in the company that manages the forest.
The group Elphinstone Logging Focus says they’ve learned an area known as EW28 is slated for harvesting. But Ross Muirhead of ELF says it could have more value to the community if it’s left alone
Muirhead says one of those values is mushroom harvesting, which contributes to the local economy. ELF is also encouraging the District to look at using the Community Forest as a “big tree tourism” destination.
ELF is holding a public walk through EW28 on Saturday. They’re asking anyone who’s interested to meet at the SCRD offices on Field Road at 1pm.
